An Atlanta woman has been sentenced to over ten years in prison for her role in a fraud scheme that stole nearly $10 million from Amazon, according to authorities.
According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Georgia, Brittany Hudson, 40, and the woman she was romantically involved with created false vendors and invoices to steal the money.
According to officials, Hudson operated a business that contracted with Amazon and was in a relationship with Kayricka Wortham, an operations manager at the company’s warehouse in Smyrna.
According to authorities, the pair lured naïve subordinates into adding fictitious vendors to the company’s system between January and June 2022. They then submitted faked invoices indicating that the bogus vendors had provided Amazon with various goods and services. Wortham approved the invoices and sent $9.4 million to the couple’s and other co-conspirators’ bank accounts.
Hudson and Wortham used the funds to purchase a nearly $1 million home in Smyrna, a 2019 Lamborghini Urus, a 2021 Dodge Durango, a 2022 Tesla Model X, a 2018 Porsche Panamera, a Kawasaki ZX636 motorcycle, and other items.
In September 2022, federal agents charged Hudson and Wortham as part of an investigation into the fraud plan. Prosecutors allege that they subsequently misled to possible business partners about the dismissal of the charges, providing them with counterfeit court documents and bank statements to back up their claims.
In March, a jury convicted Hudson of two counts of conspiracy to commit wire fraud, 17 counts of wire fraud, one count of conspiracy to do money laundering, nine counts of money laundering, and one count of forgery of a federal judge’s signature. On Wednesday, a judge sentenced her to 16 years in prison and three years of supervised release. She was also forced to pay roughly $9.5 million in restitution.Hudson and her partner engineered a massive fraud scheme against Amazon, stealing nearly $10 million in just a few months,” said U.S. Attorney Theodore S. Hertzberg.
“Hudson then demonstrated utter contempt for the law by forging a federal judge’s signature in a failed attempt to defraud another company while out on bond.” Today’s substantial sentence, which must be served without the possibility of parole, makes her responsible for her criminal binge.”
In 2023, Wortham was sentenced to the same term as Hudson.
