Three teenagers were killed, and four people are in the hospital after a two-car accident on the Belt Parkway in Brooklyn, police said.
Officers received a call at 11:35 p.m. Tuesday about a collision at Belt Parkway and 65th Street near Exit 1 in Bay Ridge.
According to police sources, a black Cadillac was driving eastbound when the driver locked his brakes as he neared a slower vehicle. A Honda behind him, driven by two women, rear-ended the Cadillac.
According to police sources, the Cadillac smashed into the guardrail, spun around, and rolled over, ejecting three of the five persons inside.
The three ejected passengers were not wearing seatbelts and perished. According to authorities, the victims are Huzayfah Algaheim, 18, Konstantin Gerantidi, 17, and Rehman Abdul, 16.
According to authorities, the other two passengers in the Cadillac, aged 16 and 18, are in stable condition at the hospital.
According to officers, the 46-year-old driver and 44-year-old passenger in the Honda are in stable condition at the hospital.
The incident was severe, as evidenced by video from the scene, with one of the cars mangled.
One of the Cadillac survivors told authorities that the teenagers had been hanging out at a gas station and were on their way home to drop everyone off before the incident.
According to police sources, there is no evidence that alcohol had a role in the driver’s actions, but detectives will request toxicological tests.
The road, which was partially closed following the incident, is now reopened.
There have been no arrests, and law enforcement is still investigating.
