Cook County Crime Stoppers is offering a $10,000 reward for information leading to an arrest in the death of a 59-year-old man who was discovered beaten in Greater Grand Crossing earlier this week.
Passers-by discovered Ben Figgures unresponsive in the 300 block of West 76th Street, outside a gas station, at approximately 5:12 a.m. on Thursday, August 20, 2026. Figgures was transferred to the University of Chicago Hospital and pronounced dead. The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office ruled that he died from blunt force trauma injuries sustained during an assault.
Crime Stoppers has published a surveillance photo of a man that Area 2 detectives are attempting to identify and talk with in connection with the killing.
“Someone out there knows what happened to Ben Figgures, and we are asking them to do the right thing,” said Paul Rutherford, Cook County Crime Stoppers’ executive director. “If you witnessed this incident, know who was responsible, or have any information that could assist investigators in identifying the culprit or offenders, please come forward. You can remain entirely anonymous, and your information could help Mr. Figgures and his family find justice.”
Information leading to the arrest of the person or persons involved may qualify for a cash reward of up to $10,000.
