A 35-year-old man with a lengthy criminal history is under arrest after reportedly burglarizing two homes, evading police, and hiding in an attic during a Monday SWAT standoff.
Rankin County Sheriff Bryan Bailey identified the suspect as Christian Banks Lane II. Lane has a lengthy criminal record, including 15 felony arrests, 12 misdemeanor arrests, and three felony convictions. Lane allegedly told authorities that he was freed on probation about 14 months ago for a Warren County business burglary.
The incident began on Monday, when officers responded to a burglary on Ridgecrest Drive. Lane evaded police and broke into a second, unconnected residence via a dog door. Once inside, Lane armed himself, refused to communicate, and trapped himself in the house.
The Rankin County SWAT team responded to the area, eventually apprehending Lane Monday night after discovering him hidden in the attic.
The Rankin County Sheriff’s Office has yet to reveal the complete list of charges Lane will face. Specifics about his previous criminal convictions and sentences are unavailable.
