Four people have been apprehended after a months-long investigation into an organized retail theft ring operating around the Tampa Bay area, according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office.
Between June 1 and July 1, 2026, the Sheriff’s Organized Retail Theft Unit investigated a group accused of stealing products from many regional retailers. Investigators found that the suspects routinely concealed store products, exited without paying, and subsequently transported the items to a neighborhood home for resale.
Detectives eventually obtained arrest warrants for three people accused of carrying out the retail thefts: Adonys Diaz Suarez, 37, Ariel Serrano Suarez, 40, and Diosvelys Morales Torres, 34. Each faces allegations of conspiracy to commit racketeering, organized retail theft, and six counts of dealing in stolen items.
As the investigation progressed, authorities connected the stolen items to a home in the 6900 block of North Thatcher Avenue. Detectives identified Armando Quintana, 49, as the individual who reportedly purchased stolen stuff from the burglars and resold it both online and personally to purchasers.
Deputies apprehended Quintana on Thatcher Avenue on the morning of July 9, 2026, while carrying out a court-authorized search warrant. Inside the home, authorities discovered approximately $300,000 in stolen property, including booze from Sam’s Club and Walmart, clothing from Lululemon and Victoria’s Secret, and expensive fragrances from various merchants.
Along with the products, search teams seized around 60 grams of cocaine, 39 grams of methamphetamine, a revolver, a rifle, and more than $3,500 cash.
Quintana was charged with trafficking methamphetamine and cocaine, conspiracy to commit racketeering, six counts of dealing in stolen property, and possession of a controlled substance.
The Sheriff’s Office worked with the Office of the Statewide Prosecutor to analyze evidence and bring formal charges, including racketeering conspiracy counts.
“This case is a prime example of the sophisticated criminal enterprises that our detectives are dismantling every day,” Sheriff Chad Chronister explained. “Organized retail theft raises expenses for businesses and consumers while encouraging additional criminal conduct in our community. Thanks to the tireless efforts of our Organized Retail Theft Unit and our collaborations with shops, we’ve shut down a significant fencing operation, recovered thousands of dollars in stolen products, and removed dangerous drugs and firearms from our streets.”
Attorney General James Uthmeier also addressed the operation’s outcome.
“Organized retail theft is a sophisticated criminal scheme that targets Florida retailers across multiple counties and drives up costs for consumers,” Uthmeier stated. “I applaud the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office and our Office of Statewide Prosecutions for dismantling this multi-county operation and recovering approximately $300,000 in stolen property. These defendants are facing significant allegations, and my office will prosecute them to the full extent of the law.”
Sheriff’s officers stated that the inquiry is ongoing.
