A man has been detained on suspicion of being involved in a stabbing that injured one person at the Indiana State Fairgrounds on Saturday night.
According to the announcement, Indiana State Police first became aware of the stabbing around 10:22 p.m. Saturday evening. At the time, troopers working security at the Indiana State Fairgrounds got a report that a “criminal incident” had occurred at a food vendor booth near Corteva Coliseum.
When troopers arrived, they discovered a 20-year-old who looked to have been cut with a knife or other sharp item. Police assisted the wounded until EMS crews, who were already stationed at the state fairgrounds, came and transferred him to an Indianapolis hospital.
According to ISP, the victim was sent to the hospital because they had “serious injuries” that required additional care.
During their investigation, state police identified Steven T. Mimms, 37, of Indianapolis, as a suspect in the case. The ISP confirmed that Mimms had fled the state fairgrounds by the time troopers learned of the stabbing.
Investigators eventually tracked Mimms down to a home in Indianapolis’ 500 block of North Beville Avenue. Mimms was detained by an ISP special weapons and tactics squad after they responded to the residence on Sunday morning.
Troopers discovered Mimms hiding in the attic of the home in question. He originally attempted to resist arrest, but officers apprehended him at 8 a.m.
After being apprehended by troopers, Mimms was brought to a nearby hospital for medical evaluation. He is anticipated to be taken to the Marion County Adult Detention Center once he is released from the hospital.
Police think Mimms was involved in a stabbing that resulted from an argument between two employes working for a third-party food vendor at the state fairgrounds.
Mimms faces preliminary charges of attempted murder, evading home detention, and resisting law enforcement.
