A Thompson man is accused of stealing over $33,000 from a local church while he was overseeing a rebuilding project, according to an arrest warrant.
Bruce Gordon Hall, 65, surrendered to Connecticut State Police in Danielson on Tuesday on an active arrest warrant for larceny in the first degree.
Between 2018 and 2020, Hall worked with Thompson Congregational Church on fundraising and grant-writing activities. He subsequently rose to the position of “Rebuild Committee Chair,” according to the warrant. The committee was assisting the church in its rebuilding efforts following a fire in 2016.
According to the warrant, Hall fraudulently removed funds from church accounts and put them in his own or Eureka Inventing, LLC’s accounts in Texas.
The warrant alleged that between April and September 2025, Hall removed about $33,732.92 from Thompson Congregational Church’s financial accounts.
The arrest warrant is 13 pages lengthy and describes the police investigation into Hall. They examined church financial records, meeting minutes, emails, and grant documents and interrogated other church members.
Hall denied any misconduct in a phone conversation with detectives in April 2026. He informed officers that he had raised hundreds of thousands of dollars in grant financing for the church and “completely denied” that any of the claims against him were genuine. According to the warrant, he refused to answer any further questions without the presence of an attorney.
Hall was freed on a bond of $150,000 and is expected to appear in Danielson Superior Court on August 12.
