Body discovered in drainage ditch in North Augusta, sparking investigation

An investigation is underway after a body was discovered in North Augusta on Thursday morning.

The Aiken County Sheriff’s Office reports that a man was discovered deceased in a drainage ditch in the 6000 block of Jefferson Davis Highway around 8:20 a.m. Forensic units were dispatched to the area and are conducting their investigation.

According to the Aiken County Coroner’s Office, the victim has been identified, and his name will be disclosed once his next of kin has been notified.

The coroner’s office has said that an autopsy will be conducted in Newberry to ascertain the cause of death.
