A Leesburg man arrested on a warrant faced extra charges for having cocaine and fentanyl on his person.
Officers on patrol saw 49-year-old Ronald Jerome Russ pedaling a blue bicycle near County Road 468 and Jones Drive around 12:20 p.m. on Thursday, July 30, according to an arrest report from the Leesburg Police Department. They were aware he had an active warrant out of Lake County for breaking his probation for felony retail theft.
The cops then stopped Russ near Veech Road and Jones Drive, observing that he was riding on the wrong side of the road and not staying close to the curb. During the traffic stop, he reached into his pants. They ordered him to raise his hands, which he did with a clenched fist, according to the report.
He was detained when investigators discovered he was carrying a glass smoking device with burned residue, a chopped straw with residue, and a white twistable container. The pipe later tested positive for cocaine. The contents of the white container tested positive for 0.5 grams of cocaine, according to the report.
Additionally, officers discovered a blue zip-top baggie inside his wallet. It included 1.5 grams of fentanyl, according to the report.
Russ was arrested and charged with possession of cocaine, fentanyl, and drug paraphernalia, as well as the warrant. He was booked into the Lake County Jail without bond.
