The FBI is offering a $10,000 reward for information leading to the identification of four gunmen who opened fire on an Auburn Gresham gas station last month, killing two people and critically injuring two others.
The agency announced the reward on Monday, days after the Chicago Police Department revealed security video of the four shooters seconds before they arrived at the scene, the BP station at 7600 South Halsted Street, as the shooting unfolded, with numerous shots fired.
At 12:23 a.m. on July 2, the suspects were seen going down an alley toward the gas station, all four clothed in black with their faces covered and hoods pulled up. The video shows the group entering the gas station lot, some with handguns and others with rifles, before racing into the station and opening fire.
Officials stated Surbezz Clark, 53, and Carlos Jones, 46, were murdered in the shooting. Police reported that a 35-year-old lady and a 33-year-old male were badly hurt.
The FBI said Monday that the shooters are thought to frequent the 7700 block of South Peoria Avenue.
One of the published videos showed a striking moment as the attack unfolded: As the shooters fired a rain of shots, a marked CPD squad car, sometimes known as a “paddy wagon,” is seen turning the corner and passing the gas station at the top of the frame.
According to police radio traffic, the officers quickly announced “shots fired,” with shooting audible in the background of the message. According to the radio reports, the officers stopped, sought ambulances, treated the casualties, and broadcast descriptions of the shooters to officers around the area.
