A juvenile was injured in a shooting at Wheaton Mall on Friday evening, according to Montgomery County Police.
At about 6 p.m., 4th District officers rushed to the mall in the 11100 block of Veirs Mill Road for a reported shooting. Police said a juvenile victim was shot in the leg and taken to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Authorities say a juvenile male suspect has been apprehended. Police stated that the incident has been secured, and there is no longer a threat within the mall. However, the public is asked to avoid the area while officials do their investigation.

Officers from the 4th District and Montgomery County Fire Rescue arrived to the scene at 6 p.m. after receiving a report of a shooting.
The preliminary investigation found that a 17-year-old male suspect shot a handgun inside the mall, shooting a 13-year-old male victim in the leg.
The suspect fled to Dick’s Sporting Goods, where an armed security guard apprehended and detained him until police arrived and took him into jail. Officers retrieved the suspect’s firearm.
Officers administered first assistance to the victim, who was sent to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. When additional information becomes available, a news release will be sent.
