Cleveland police detained three people following a shooting at an auto detailing shop on the city’s west side, which injured three persons, two of whom were bystanders.
Police met with one 24-year-old victim at 8 p.m. on Friday, July 24, in the 1900 block of West 45th Street, according to a news release issued Thursday, July 30.
The man told investigators he was cleaning a vehicle for a customer when a man approached him from a nearby home and “aggressively demanded that he leave the area,” according to the release.
The suspect fled and then returned with another man, subsequently identified as 46-year-old Venancio Camargo Jr., who allegedly brandished a firearm. When the victim began to back away, Camargo aimed at him and fired numerous times, according to the release.
According to the release, the bullets also struck two bystanders: a 37-year-old lady inside a nearby home and a 42-year-old male standing on an adjacent home’s porch.
According to the announcement, gunshots hit at least three automobiles.
Officers gathered surveillance footage, interrogated witnesses and victims, and identified Camargo as the suspect. They apprehended him at a nearby residence. He allegedly dropped a handgun on the ground as they approached.
On Thursday morning, July 30, Cleveland police and SWAT teams raided two nearby residences and arrested Camargo’s father, 75-year-old Venancio Camargo Sr., and 21-year-old Daniel King-Camargo.
All three have now been charged with felonious assault.
In a statement issued Thursday, Police Chief Dorothy Todd said:
This was a senseless act of violence that impacted the victims, their families, and the entire West 45th Street community. Our thoughts are with those who were injured and the residents who were affected by this incident. I commend the dedication and professionalism of our Second District detectives, officers, dispatchers, Crime Scene Unit, and SWAT Unit for their tireless work to identify those responsible and bring them into custody. The Cleveland Division of Police remains committed to protecting our communities and holding accountable those who endanger the safety of our residents.
The investigation is underway.
