Authorities have detained an 81-year-old man on suspicion of shooting and killing his ex-wife in suburban Oak Lawn earlier this year.
According to authorities, officers were called to a property in the 9400 block of 53rd Court on April 5 for a well-being check after a caretaker discovered Maryanne Buss-Kincaid, 76, motionless inside her home.
According to police, Buss-Kincaid was shot and pronounced dead at the scene.
During their investigation, detectives identified Charles Buss, Buss-Kincaid’s ex-husband, as a person of interest in her death.
That inquiry apparently indicated Buss was at Oak Lawn at the time of her death and had since returned to Missouri, where he lives.
On June 16, an arrest warrant for first-degree murder was issued in the case, and one month later, on July 16, U.S. Marshals apprehended Buss in Stone County, Missouri, according to authorities.
After being extradited to Illinois, Buss was formally charged with one count of first-degree murder this week, and he will appear in court for a pretrial detention hearing on Friday, officials said.
