A two-day enforcement mission aimed at curbing a recent rise in gun violence led to nearly a dozen arrests and the recovery of multiple firearms, according to the Portland Police Bureau.
The expedition, which took place from July 17 to 18, focused on locations where gun violence was on the rise. According to PPB, officers recovered seven firearms, made 11 arrests, issued seven tickets, towed ten vehicles, and conducted parole compliance checks.
“This mission demonstrates what can be accomplished when law enforcement agencies work together with a shared commitment to reducing gun violence and protecting our community,” said PPB Chief Bob Day. “We remain committed to holding violent offenders accountable while continuing to build safer neighborhoods through proactive enforcement and strong partnerships.”
Convenience store shooting injures employee
The most prominent arrest occurred Friday night, when officers apprehended four youths from Seattle who authorities claim are involved in a string of violent robberies, including a convenience store shooting that left an employee hospitalized.
Shooting suspect flees from officers
On Friday, officers found 22-year-old Kielondre Carr, who was wanted in connection with an injury shooting in late May. Officers attempted to arrest Carr at Northeast 82nd Avenue and Northeast Milton Street, but he jumped into a nearby car and fled.
When cops were able to stop the fleeing automobile, Carr fled on foot but was apprehended and detained. Police claimed a firearm had been seized.
Carr was arrested in Multnomah County for unlawful possession of a firearm, reckless driving, attempting to elude by vehicle, and third-degree escape.
NE Portland injury shooting arrest
On Saturday night, police responded to a shooting near Northeast 148th Avenue and Northeast Burnside Street. According to police, witnesses said that a guy left an SUV and shot multiple bullets at a pedestrian before leaving in the SUV.
Minutes later, Gresham police officers located the SUV near Northeast 172nd Avenue and Northeast Couch Street. Officers traced the car to Northeast Airport Way and utilized a PIT technique to stop it.
Three persons in the SUV fled on foot but were apprehended shortly afterward. According to police, a firearm has been recovered.
While officers were processing the area, a gunshot victim from the NE 148th and Burnside incident arrived at a nearby hospital. The 21-year-old man is expected to survive.
Police identified the alleged shooter as Adyn Cochran, 19, who was among the three people apprehended.
Cochran was booked into Multnomah County Jail on charges of second-degree attempted murder, first-degree assault, second-degree assault, and unlawful use of a weapon.
