A Michigan murder suspect has been arrested following a two-county police chase on Interstate 69 that began in Grant County and finished in Delaware County, according to Delaware County Chief Deputy Sheriff Jeff Stanley.
Around 10 a.m. on Monday, July 20, Indiana State Excise Police troopers discovered a vehicle on Interstate 69 that had been reported stolen and tied to a killing in Wyoming, Michigan.
According to police, the suspect, a 43-year-old man from Michigan, was driving southbound on I-69 near the 262 mile marker when Indiana State Police-Peru District troopers and Grant County sheriff’s deputies attempted a high-risk traffic stop.
According to investigators, the suspect fled the scene at speeds above 100 mph.
According to police, the suspect drove southbound on I-69, passing other vehicles by driving through the median and shoulder.
The chase ended when the suspect vehicle drove off the road and into a field at the 236 mile marker.
Indiana State Police Aviation assisted in locating the abandoned vehicle in a field near County Road 1000 West and 170 South in Delaware County.
Police said the man was spotted going northbound on County Road 1000 West, away from the vehicle.
Officers arrested the suspect and transferred him to Grant County Jail on the following preliminary charges:
