A wanted fugitive was apprehended Saturday after authorities claimed he led them on a vehicle chase across Burke County and fired a revolver at pursuing cops.
The Burke County Sheriff’s Office said deputies received information regarding Patrick Buxton’s whereabouts earlier Saturday. He was wanted on an active felony probation warrant. Deputies found Buxton driving a blue 2024 Chevrolet Trailblazer in Waynesboro and attempted to stop him, but he refused and fled, the sheriff’s office said.
During the pursuit, deputies claim Buxton fired a handgun at the pursuing deputies. The chase proceeded to a work site on Quaker Road, where Buxton abandoned his SUV and fled, according to authorities.
According to the sheriff’s office, Buxton was captured without incident following a brief chase. A female passenger in the vehicle was held during the initial investigation but later released.
Investigators discovered a Taurus G2s 9mm handgun, which deputies claimed Buxton discarded during the chase. Authorities also discovered two suspected gunshot hits in the suspect vehicle.
No deputies were harmed, and the sheriff’s office reported that no patrol vehicles were damaged. Buxton was transferred to a local hospital for medical evaluation before being booked into arrest, according to officials.
Buxton has been charged with aggravated assault against a peace officer, obstruction of a law enforcement official, and running or attempting to avoid a police officer, all felonies.
The sheriff’s office is still investigating.
