A North Carolina woman was taken into custody late Tuesday night in the Florida Keys after reportedly driving into a sheriff’s office substation while intoxicated, with an 11-year-old child in the car.
Heidy Jazmin Aleman, 34, of Thomasville, North Carolina, was charged with driving under the influence and child neglect after the incident on July 14, 2026. According to authorities, no one was injured.
According to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, Aleman drove a BMW vehicle into the Cudjoe Key substation at 11:10 p.m. to ask a sheriff’s sergeant for instructions. A sergeant on the scene saw that Aleman appeared inebriated.
Deputies had previously received reports about the same BMW, which was seen driving erratically on U.S. 1 before coming into the station.
Aleman was requested to take field sobriety tests, and the sheriff’s office said that she failed. She was then arrested and brought to a nearby jail.
Authorities took the 11-year-old passenger in the BMW to a children’s shelter. Deputies confirmed that a family member was traveling to the shelter to take custody of the youngster.
