Philadelphia police apprehended two individuals in connection with a shooting that killed a 19-year-old and injured three others.
According to investigators, Ja’Tavious Johnson, 20, of Carthage, and Jacob Triplett, 20, of Carthage, were detained and charged with first-degree murder and three charges of attempted murder. They stated that the two guys were apprehended in Leake County with the assistance of Carthage police and Leake County deputies.
The shooting happened on Walnut Street in the early morning hours of July 12, 2026.
When cops arrived at the scene, they located a 19-year-old male with several gunshot wounds. He was taken to a local hospital and later pronounced dead. The victim was identified as Jamari Hickman.
According to investigators, numerous other victims were transferred to surrounding hospitals by private vehicles before authorities arrived. One woman was shot in the leg and taken to Jackson Hospital for further treatment.
Police said two more people were treated for non-life-threatening injuries. One suffered a graze wound to the leg, while the other sustained a graze wound to the arm. Both were treated and released from their local hospital.
