Police: Masked Suspect Robs Akron Circle K At Gunpoint

The Akron Police Department is investigating a robbery that occurred on the Fourth of July.

According to police, at 12:07 p.m., officers responded to the Circle K at 1985 West Market Street for a report of an armed robbery.

The photos were shared to ask the community’s help in identifying the suspect.

Throughout the evening of July 4, the Akron Police Department arrested 15 people, including 13 minors and two adults.

The following statement was issued by Mayor Shammas Malik:

This weekend, thousands of people came together in downtown Akron to celebrate our nation’s Independence Day – spending time with family and friends, enjoying the festivities, and celebrating safely. I want to thank our Akron Police Department officers, our firefighters/EMS personnel, Lock 3 staff and everyone who worked behind the scenes to help manage an event of this size. Their planning and professionalism allowed thousands of residents and visitors to enjoy the evening safely.

While a small number of individuals chose to engage in disruptive or unlawful behavior, they represented only a tiny fraction of the more than 10,000 people who attended. Officers acted quickly and appropriately to address those situations so everyone else could continue enjoying the celebration. The actions of a few should not overshadow a successful celebration enjoyed safely by thousands of people. As we go forward, we will take lessons from this event to help inform our safety planning for other public events.

I also want to thank the thousands of parents, grandparents, caregivers, families, friends, and young people who showed what our community is capable of when we look out for one another. Large community events like this are only successful when all of us do our part. We all share a responsibility to help supervise the young people we care about, encourage good decisions, and create the kind of environment where everyone can celebrate safely. That’s how we continue building a stronger, safer Akron together.

Mayor Shammas Malik
