Irvine police officers nabbed six suspects believed to be part of a professional South American burglary crew.
Suspects were identified as:
- Andres Zarate, 32, of Bellflower
- Darlyn Alejandra Acosta Serrano, 32, of Huntington Beach
- One 17-year-old girl
- Three 17-year-old boys
Over the past year, investigators believe the team is responsible for over ten domestic burglaries in Irvine.
“Detectives identified the suspects involved after conducting extensive surveillance and gathering evidence,” the Irvine Police Department stated.
On June 24, authorities conducted arrest operations in Bellflower, Huntington Beach, and Los Angeles, apprehending all six suspects.
Detectives said they will continue to investigate evidence to see if the group was involved in any other crimes.
Police informed the Los Angeles Times that they are still investigating if the six individuals run their own ring or are part of a larger organization.
“There are many people involved in this case, but we believe they are the primary suspects in these burglaries,” Irvine police public information officer Ziggy Azarcon told the site. “It’s still a possibility there may be more.”
“We are dedicated to the safety of our community,” stated Irvine Police Chief Michael Kent. “This successful inquiry sends a clear message to everyone that criminality is not allowed here. We have the technology, resources, and skills to identify and hold accountable individuals who perpetrate crimes in Irvine.”
