The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office said Monday that three people were taken into custody following a stabbing investigation at a Far East El Paso grocery shop. The suspects were apprehended during a brief confrontation at an apartment in West El Paso.
At 8:51 p.m. on Saturday, deputies arrived at the Vista Market grocery shop off Montana Avenue in Far East El Paso. According to EPCSO, deputies discovered that four people had departed the scene before law enforcement arrived.
The preliminary inquiry found that two men reportedly assaulted two people. One of the suspects stabbed both victims during the alleged assault, resulting in critical injuries, according to EPCSO.
The EPCSO’s Special Operations Unit then began an investigation to locate the suspects and victims. According to the sheriff’s office, the victims are receiving medical treatment at a local hospital.
Deputies discovered a suspect vehicle behind a mobile home in the 15500 block of Sun Beam Drive, Homestead Meadows North, according to EPCSO. A search warrant was issued, and investigators discovered evidence in the vehicle.
Deputies discovered two people engaged in the alleged assault on Sunday, according to the EPCSO.
Isaiah Jonathan Cardenas, 20, was apprehended by law enforcement, according to the EPCSO. He was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, assault resulting in bodily injury, and criminal mischief. His bond equaled $267,500.
They also detained Felipe De Jesus Cardenas, 22, who was charged with assault, inflicting bodily harm, and required a $15,000 bond.
EPCSO reported that further investigation led deputies to an apartment at the Retreat at Mesa Hills. Both suspects were there, and Isaiah Cardenas entered the apartment.
EPCSO reported that he, his brother, sister, and mother barricaded themselves in the flat.
Investigators obtained a search warrant for the apartment, and the EPCSO Crisis Negotiations Team and SWAT responded to assist with the operation.
Following a brief standoff, the family surrendered.
A third person, 24-year-old Zaithed Janet Cardenas, was charged with obstructing the arrest of a wanted person and posted a $3,000 bond, according to EPCSO.
All three arrested were booked into the El Paso County Detention Facility.
