Multiple people were injured when gunfire rang out Saturday afternoon at South Carolina’s largest mall.
The Greenville Police Department confirmed to Fox News Digital that two people were brought to the hospital following the 1 p.m. incident at Haywood Mall.
The department reports that multiple people are in custody.
“The scene is active but contained,” a spokeswoman stated.
Officials stated there is no danger to the public, but “it could be some time” until first responders can evacuate the area.
The Greenville City Fire Department and other law enforcement authorities are assisting with the evacuations.
Greenlink, the city’s public transportation system, is providing an air-conditioned bus to keep evacuees cool, and the mall will be closed for an uncertain amount of time, according to police.
The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED), the South Carolina Highway Patrol, and the Greenville County Sheriff’s Office did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital’s additional queries.
