DoorDasher took into custody after art taken from downtown condo

The Memphis Police Department took into custody a man for allegedly stealing artwork from a condominium in Downtown Memphis.

According to police records, Austin Herman has been charged with theft ranging from $1,000 to $2,500.

On June 4, Memphis Police received a report of a theft at a building near Riverside Drive and Georgia Street. The condominium president told police that when he was exiting the property, he discovered three paintings missing from the lobby.

The condo president checked video footage of the lobby and told police that he saw a DoorDash delivery driver remove the paintings from the wall and exit the property.

Investigators were able to locate Herman by checking multiple video cameras in the vicinity. Officers were able to determine the vehicle’s tag number, which they stated was registered to Herman.

Herman was arrested and eventually freed on his own recognizance. His next court appearance is slated for June 8.
