A man died and a woman was seriously injured in a head-on collision early Saturday morning in central Phoenix.
Officers went to the mishap near Thomas Road and 40th Street shortly after 6:30 a.m. and discovered a two-car head-on collision.
A man and a woman were removed from an SUV and transported to the hospital, where the man was pronounced dead. The woman sustained significant injuries.
The driver of the second vehicle was not wounded, according to authorities.
Officers discovered that the SUV, driven by a 70-year-old man, crossed the road into oncoming traffic and collided with another vehicle.
The inquiry into the crash is underway.
