FIRE DEPARTMENT: Sault Ste. Marie woman deliberately set blaze that killed herself and her 3 children

Sault Ste. Marie — The Sault Ste. Marie Fire Department has identified the four victims of the fatal March 14th, 2023 fire.

The adult victim is 31-year-old Alicia Adzima. Her three children also perished: 4-year-old twin girls Ella and Eva Clossick, and 1-year-old boy Emery Adzima. Authorities have notified next of kin.

Investigators have ruled the fire a homicide-suicide. Alicia Adzima deliberately set the blaze with the intent to kill herself and her children.

The investigation remains open, and authorities are not releasing additional information at this time.

The Sault Ste. Marie Fire and Police Departments received assistance from the Chippewa County Sheriff’s Office and Victims Services Unit, Michigan State Police, MSP Fire Investigation Unit, MSP Crime Lab-Marquette, MSP Crime Lab-Grand Rapids, and Chippewa County Central Dispatch.

UPDATE: The Sault Ste. Marie Police Department has revised the death toll from Tuesday’s house fire from one to four.

Investigators recovered a 31-year-old and three children, ranging in age from one to four, from the home. The names and exact ages of the children have not been released.

The investigation remains ongoing.

Investigators are seeking information about a fatal house fire that occurred Tuesday morning in Sault Ste. Marie.

At approximately 7:37 a.m., the Sault Ste. Marie Fire and Police Departments responded to a house fire at 3607 Shallows Beach Avenue within the city.

The fire was fatal and remains under investigation. Authorities have not yet released the victim’s identification, and no further information is available at this time.

The Sault Ste. Marie Fire and Police Departments are receiving investigative assistance from the Chippewa County Sheriff’s Office and Victims Services Unit, Michigan State Police and Fire Investigation Unit, and Chippewa County Central Dispatch.
