A 23-year-old Las Vegas man suspected of stabbing his brother 26 times was overheard saying, “My life is ruined,” before police arrived, according to an arrest report.
Eder Castrejon remains in the Clark County Detention Center on a murder charge. He is set to appear in court on Thursday, June 4.
Family members and witnesses to a conflict between Eder and his brother, Arturo, on Thursday night, May 21, told police that they believed Eder was protecting himself. However, when they viewed Arturo’s injuries while being transported to an ambulance on a medical trolley, at least one individual had a different opinion.
Arturo was pronounced dead at 12:03 a.m. on May 22.
During interviews with family members at the east Las Vegas home near West Sahara Avenue and Hollywood Boulevard, police discovered that the brothers clashed frequently. However, their mother claims that the arguments were simply verbal. According to the arrest report, she claimed they had not fought physically since middle school.
His two sisters told police that disagreements were common in the family, but there was little to indicate that this one was any different until Eder told his mother he had a knife and was going to stab Arturo. She never saw the knife, but she spoke with him upstairs, and when they returned, she told Arturo to stop arguing with Eder, according to reports.
The fight appears to have started because Arturo was furious that Eder had not cleaned the downstairs bathroom toilet. Arturo had lately moved back into the house and was sleeping on the couch while the others were in their bedrooms.
Eder claimed he was trying to avoid Arturo, but he eventually walked into the backyard and began shooting a BB pistol. He had already opened a folding knife and carried it in his pocket, he told investigators.
When Arturo followed him out a few minutes later, the “simple fight” erupted.
“As Arturo yelled, he put his hands on Eder’s shoulders. Eder feared he was going to tackle him, so he dropped the BB pistol, took his knife from his right pocket, and began stabbing Arturo on the side, according to Eder’s description of the struggle in his police interview.
When the mother and daughters went to the backyard, the mother noticed blood on Eder’s hands, and Arturo was covered in blood. According to the complaint, she noticed Arturo had many knife wounds on his back and suspected Eder of stabbing him from behind.
Arturo sustained stab wounds to his upper right arm, left chest, left arm, head, and back. According to the coroner’s preliminary investigation, approximately 14 of the stab wounds were to his back.
