18-year-old taken into custody for shooting at Toledo charter school

An 18-year-old has been taken into custody in connection with a February shooting at a charter school in downtown Toledo.

Vashawn Dixon was arrested on Monday and charged with felony assault.

In late February, police obtained an arrest warrant for Dixon after surveillance footage and witness accounts identified him as the suspect in the multiple shooting of a 17-year-old student at Glass City Academy.

Authorities on the scene say the student was shot inside the academy’s front doors at 3 p.m., when classes ended for the day. The teenager was sent to a nearby hospital in critical condition.

The school was placed under lockdown following the shooting.

Dixon is being jailed at the Lucas County Jail on a $100,000 bond.

He has a preliminary hearing planned in Toledo Municipal Court on June 8.
