Capitol Heights Murder Suspect Arrested After Routine Park Police Stop

A 20-year-old man wanted in connection with a February fatal shooting in Capitol Heights has been arrested following an unrelated traffic stop in Washington, D.C., according to authorities. The arrest comes after months of investigation by Prince George’s County homicide police into the death of Ky-Mari Bowman, aged 19. Officials said the suspect is being held in D.C. while awaiting extradition to Prince George’s County.

According to a post from the Prince George’s County Police Department, homicide detectives identified the suspect as Roland Andre Carter Jr., 20, and claimed they had previously acquired an arrest warrant in the case. US Park Police detained Carter during an unrelated encounter in Washington, D.C., according to the post. He has been charged with first- and second-degree murder, as well as other felonies. The detectives discovered that Carter and Bowman knew each other.

The incident occurred on February 4 at approximately 3:20 p.m. on the 500 block of Abel Avenue in Capitol Heights. According to The BayNet, officers discovered Bowman outside with gunshot wounds, and he died shortly after at a hospital. Early on, detectives stated that the incident appeared to be the result of an argument rather than a random act of violence.
