Uninsured driver taken into custody after crashing in roundabout in The Villages

A Leesburg man was taken into custody with a suspended license after colliding with an uninsured vehicle on a roundabout in The Villages.

An officer responded to a single-vehicle crash in a roundabout in the Village of Fenney around 6:20 a.m. on Wednesday, according to an arrest record from the Wildwood Police Department. When he arrived, he spotted 20-year-old Berlian Nunez standing behind a black Audi SUV against a concrete electrical post.

Nunez stated that he had been driving west on Warm Springs Avenue before approaching the roundabout. According to the report, he estimated that his vehicle was moving between 40 and 45 mph as he reached the junction.

He applied severe brakes, but his front wheels collided with the roundabout’s curb and one-way sign. The truck continued through the roundabout, harming the greenery before exiting back onto the road. The front wheels and front end then collided with the curb on the northwest side of the roundabout, and he exited the road to come to a halt against a concrete electrical pole, the report stated.

Nunez admitted to driving while his license was suspended and his vehicle was uninsured, according to the report.

The Massachusetts native was detained on allegations of driving with a suspended license and failure to have motor vehicle liability insurance. He was booked into Sumter County Detention Center and released after posting a $650 bond.
