Police: Lincoln Man Arrested After Using Handgun To Make Threats On Memorial Day

A Lincoln man was arrested on Memorial Day for threatening someone with a handgun, according to police.

On Monday, just before 10 p.m., LPD was called to a parking lot near 48th and O streets.

According to an arrest document, two men in a car drove by the parking lot and noticed 32-year-old Joseph Martinez in a verbal and physical altercation with a woman.

They stopped into the parking lot to check on them, and the woman informed the passenger that they were just squabbling. Martinez said repeatedly, “If you get out of the car, you can find out,” police said.

Officers reported that the passenger then saw Martinez was carrying a firearm. According to the affidavit, he loaded it, racked the slide, and directed the driver to go.

The males left, and police arrived shortly afterwards. Martinez and the woman were both held, and officers reported that Martinez claimed ownership of the gun.

According to the affidavit, the pair was found with a semi-automatic 9mm weapon and a 17-round magazine. There wasn’t a bullet in the handgun chamber. According to authorities, Martinez had 21 9mm rounds in his possession.

Police also discovered that Martinez was a convicted felon at the time of the event.

Martinez was arrested and charged with possessing a firearm when prohibited, using a firearm to conduct a felony, and making terroristic threats. At his arraignment on Tuesday, the court set him bond at 10% of $250,000.

He is due back in court on June 24.
