California man charged after body discovered under blanket near Pennsylvania road

A man from California is facing a list of charges, including homicide, after a body was found under a blanket near the shoulder of a road in Dauphin County, Pennsylvania, officials said.

According to online court records, Ilia Romanchenko is charged with criminal homicide, abuse of a corpse, possession of an instrument of crime, and tampering with or fabricating physical evidence. After being taken into custody on Sunday, the 25-year-old Roseville, California, resident is currently awaiting his preliminary arraignment.

Romanchenko was detained outside of the state and is awaiting extradition, according to CBS affiliate WHP, which cited Dauphin County District Attorney Fran Chardo. Romanchenko is charged in relation to the body’s discovery over the weekend, according to the news agency. The corpse was discovered in Londonderry Township on May 23 at around 10 a.m. close to state Route 441, according to a news release from Pennsylvania State Police.

Police described the victim, who is thought to be in his 30s or 40s, as having brown eyes, dark brown hair, and facial hair. The victim’s identity has not been made public. According to the news release from state police, he is 5-foot-10 and weighs 210 pounds. He was sporting a black Oakland Raiders shirt.
