A New Jersey man has been indicted for sexually exploiting a Massachusetts child.
Essam Meawad, a 34-year-old Cherry Hill resident, was indicted on Monday, according to the US Attorney’s Office.
Meawad coerced a minor into sexually explicit behavior in August and November 2024, according to prosecutors. In August 2024, he crossed state boundaries to have illicit contact with the youngster.
According to authorities, Meawad was arrested in April 2025 for a home invasion and has been in detention since then.
Meawad was charged with two counts of child sexual exploitation and one count of interstate travel with the intent to engage in illegal sexual contact with minor. Each charge carries a maximum punishment of 30 years in prison.
