A 28-year-old woman was apprehended after allegedly spitting on an officer multiple times while being detained and admitting to possessing marijuana, according to the Horizon City Police Department.
Esperanza Mondragon was apprehended for harassing a public official and possessing marijuana. She was booked into El Paso County Detention Facility.
Officers were summoned to the area of North Kenazo Avenue on Monday, May 11, after receiving a report of a lady reportedly exposing herself in public and causing a disturbance.
When officers arrived, they discovered the guy known as Mondragon. According to HCPD, during the interaction, Mondragon became “verbally aggressive” towards police and allegedly threatened them.
When cops sought to restrain her, Mondragon allegedly spat on one of them many times.
Following the event, investigators secured an arrest warrant for her.
On Tuesday, May 12, police apprehended Mondragon in Horizon City without incident.
During his arrest, Mondragon allegedly admitted to carrying marijuana. Officers found a little amount of the narcotic on her person.
“The Horizon City Police Department remains committed to protecting public servants and maintaining the safety and quality of life within the community,” according to a press release from the department.
Mondragon was charged in September 2025 with obstructing the arrest of a wanted person and interfering with official responsibilities in relation to an incident between her brother and the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office.
