A Hialeah woman was taken into custody on Monday after police discovered cocaine traces and drug paraphernalia inside a vehicle in which she had been sleeping with a child.
According to a Miami Police arrest affidavit, Neisha Puentes, 31, is charged with child neglect, possession of cocaine, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Around 1 p.m., police responded to the vicinity of Northwest 12th Street and Northwest 13th Avenue near Miami’s Civic Center after receiving complaints of a woman sleeping inside a vehicle.
According to the complaint, authorities discovered Puentes sleeping in the car and awoke her by pounding on the window.
Investigators said she informed officers she had fallen asleep from exhaustion.
While Puentes exited the vehicle to care for the child, authorities discovered a crack pipe with cocaine residue and several baggies containing suspected cocaine on the front passenger-side floorboard.
According to authorities, Miami Fire Rescue arrived at the scene and brought the child to Jackson Memorial Hospital for evaluation.
The Florida Department of Children and Families and the Miami Police Special Victims Unit were both notified, according to the report.
According to investigators, DCF intended to release the child to his grandmother.
Puentes was booked into jail on Monday afternoon.
