A Summerfield man and his Williston companion were arrested on narcotics charges after being pulled over at the TA Travel Center in Wildwood.
A deputy stopped a dark Cadillac at the TA Travel Center on State Road 44 around 10:20 p.m. Monday for crossing a solid white line, according to an arrest report from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office. After approaching the vehicle, the deputy spoke with the passengers, Brandon Michael Joles, 24, and Destiny Nicole Humphreys-Ruetz, 33.
Because Humphreys-Ruetz was driving, she was asked for her license. She reached around and moved some objects in the back, and the deputy spotted a pill bottle with a clear plastic baggie inside. This appeared to be an attempt to conceal narcotics, according to the investigation.
Another deputy rushed to the traffic stop to help search the vehicle. He discovered a transparent plastic package of marijuana in the center console, directly above Joles’ ID. According to the article, a record check revealed that his medical marijuana certificate had expired.
A closer glance at the previously mentioned pill bottle revealed that the name had been wiped off. There was another pill container with the identical features under the front passenger seat, and it contained three plastic bags containing methamphetamine. According to the report, a last pill bottle in the backseat contained a large number of gabapentin pills, and in the trunk was a case of Narcan and drug test kits.
Joles was detained for possession of marijuana (less than 20 grams). He was booked into the Sumter County Detention Center. Marion County placed a hold on his custody. Joles, who has a long criminal record, was detained last year in a hit-and-run accident.
Humphreys-Ruetz was arrested for possession of methamphetamine and a dangerous new legend drug without a prescription. Her bond amount was set at $2,500.
