A 2-year-old child was discovered walking alone in a parking lot, triggering an early-morning response by El Paso County deputies and resulting in a child endangerment complaint against the child’s father.
On Monday about 6 a.m., deputies were summoned to the 12700 block of Eastlake after a young kid was discovered unattended.
Deputies spoke with the reporting party, who stated that he found the 2-year-old strolling alone in the parking lot.
The child appeared lost and asked for their father.
Deputies found the toddler barefoot, clad in pajamas, and wearing a soiled diaper, according to officials.
Deputies secured the infant and looked for a guardian.
After about two hours, deputies found and contacted the child’s father, Eric Willis, who is 31 years old.
Willis told deputies he didn’t know the child had left and thought the door was secured, according to officials.
During the investigation, officers noticed the odor of an alcoholic beverage and discovered numerous empty alcohol containers inside the home. Willis admitted to drinking the night before, according to deputies.
Willis was arrested and charged with abandonment or endangering a child. He was brought to the El Paso County Detention Facility and detained without bond.
