An Augusta woman was apprehended Tuesday after surveillance video showed her stepping on a child at Circle City ABA on Wheeler Road, according to the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office.
Aaniyah Brown of Augusta faces first-degree child cruelty charges.
Deputies were dispatched to the autistic therapy center at 1:23 p.m. on Tuesday in response to reports of child cruelty. A complaint informed deputies that Brown assaulted a juvenile.
The complainant reported the incident at 11:31 a.m. and brought it to her attention. She claimed she checked the security camera system and saw Brown push the youngster away twice with her foot before holding him down by stepping on his lower back, officials allege.
According to the incident report, the complainant stated that as the youngster attempted to stand, Brown placed a foot on his face and pushed him away.
Authorities say deputies watched the footage and witnessed the events as recounted.
According to the incident report, Brown stated that she was merely using her foot to prevent the child from injuring her.
Brown was then detained at 4:20 p.m. and sent to the Richmond County Jail, according to officials.
