2 displaced after house fire near Westport Road

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Two people were displaced after a large house fire broke out in east Louisville on Friday.

Anchorage-Middletown Fire and EMS and the St. Matthews Fire Department responded to the 11200 block of Coventry Greens Drive near Westport Road at about 11:50 a.m. following reports of a structure fire, according to a spokesperson.

Crews arrived to find a one-story brick home engulfed in flames, the spokesperson said. Firefighters entered the home and rescued one dog, but they later exited and shifted to an exterior attack to protect nearby buildings due to the risk of a collapse.

While exiting the structure, one firefighter suffered a minor head injury during a partial collapse. He received treatment at the scene and continued his shift.

The spokesperson confirmed that the two occupants of the home were not present during the fire.

About 30 firefighters and medical personnel worked for nearly an hour to bring the fire under control. The spokesperson said the fire started in the garage.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

No other injuries were reported.
