After a night of severe storms, winter weather will return to Louisville with colder temperatures and chances of snow on March 16, according to the latest forecast from the National Weather Service in Louisville.
The metro area is expected to see snow showers and snow squalls that could leave a light dusting. While snow chances will continue throughout March 16, NWS Louisville meteorologist Kyle Wilkins said conditions will likely intensify in the afternoon as temperatures drop. Louisville has an 80% chance of seeing a dusting of snow and a 23% chance of receiving more than 1 inch.
The snow follows a cold front that brought severe thunderstorms on March 15, delivering 0.83 inches of precipitation and peak wind gusts of 44 mph to the region.
“As the front moved through — and that’s what brought us the thunderstorms — we’re now seeing northwest winds behind it, bringing in colder air,” Wilkins said. “That’s why conditions are shifting to snow, as cold air moves in from the north.”
According to NWS Louisville, snow squalls may reduce visibility on roads. Drivers should safely exit highways if possible, slow down, and increase following distance when encountering a snow squall.
