MCCRACKEN COUNTY, Ky. — A 26-year-old man has been sentenced to prison after pleading guilty to multiple charges stemming from a domestic violence case in 2025, according to a news release from Attorney General Russell Coleman.
Hunter Diel pleaded guilty to several offenses, including strangulation, and a judge sentenced him to eight years in prison.
Court records filed in McCracken County Circuit Court state that in April 2025, Diel slapped the victim across the face and strangled her by applying pressure to her throat with his hands.
In addition to pleading guilty to second-degree strangulation, a Class D felony, Diel also admitted guilt to fourth-degree assault and being a persistent felony offender.
“This is a man with a violent criminal past, and we are grateful for our Western Kentucky partners who helped secure justice for the victim and put him back behind bars,” Attorney General Coleman said in a statement following the conviction.
The McCracken County Sheriff’s Office investigated the case, and Assistant Attorney General Richie Kemp prosecuted it on behalf of the Commonwealth.
