BULLITT COUNTY, Ky. (WAVE) – Police have taken a Bullitt County man into custody after they say he fatally beat his wife until her face was “unrecognizable.”
Mt. Washington police responded around 9:09 p.m. to the 100 block of Williamsburg Court on Friday, March 6.
When officers arrived, they saw Richard Chesher standing at the open garage door with blood covering his hands, face, and clothing. As he noticed the officers approaching, Chesher immediately tried to close the garage door.
Police said they could see a body lying on the garage floor, also covered in blood.
According to arrest documents, officers then detained Chesher without incident.
Police identified the body in the garage as the suspect’s wife, who was already dead when officers arrived. Authorities said her face and body were covered in blood, and her face and head had been beaten so severely that she was “unrecognizable.”
Investigators found a trail of blood inside the house leading to the area where they believe the attack occurred, which led them to suspect that Chesher dragged her body into the garage. Officers also discovered what they described as a club-like piece of wood covered in what appeared to be blood.
Arrest documents state that a pickup truck was backed up to the garage door, with a ramp made from wooden boards placed from the garage floor to the truck bed. Police said the victim had been wrapped in a garden hose near the ramp, leading investigators to believe Chesher was attempting to load the body into the truck bed.
Police confirmed that no one else was inside the home when officers arrived.
Chesher faces charges of murder, tampering with physical evidence, and abuse of a corpse.
