Authorities have accused an Illinois man of killing his girlfriend after her body was discovered in a hotel dumpster.
The Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office approved a first-degree murder charge against 54-year-old Arturo F. Taylor, of Fox Lake, Ill., on Feb. 27, according to a statement from the Elk Grove Village Police Department.
Officers responded to a hotel on Landmeier Road around 4:18 a.m. on Feb. 25 after receiving a report about an unresponsive person. When they arrived, police found an adult woman dead inside a dumpster.
She was identified as 50-year-old Colleen Bagley of Fox Lake by the medical examiner, according to the police statement.
Officials later determined that her death was a homicide caused by multiple sharp force injuries.
Bagley’s brother, Jason Ehardt, told The Chicago Tribune that Taylor was her boyfriend. He said the loss of his sister came as a shock.
“I wish we had more time together,” Ehardt said, per the newspaper. “I’m gonna miss her.”
Police allege that Taylor stabbed Bagley multiple times after a dispute inside their hotel room.
The Tribune reported, citing prosecutors, that security footage showed Taylor around *2 a.m. walking toward the dumpsters while carrying a garbage bag.
“Evidence indicates this was an isolated incident with no ongoing threat to the community,” the police statement said. “The Elk Grove Village Police Department extends its heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of the deceased.”
It remains unclear whether Taylor has entered a plea or hired an attorney to speak on his behalf.
