LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) – A man has been charged after Louisville Metro Police say he crashed his vehicle into a restaurant in the Highlands while it was open Saturday evening.
In a Facebook post, the owner of Louisville StrEatery shared that his brother’s restaurant, Kiwami Ramen, was directly struck by a car.

The Japanese restaurant, located at Bardstown Road and Dunker Avenue, stated on its Facebook page that all guests and employees were safe. The post added that during the frightening incident, those inside acted quickly to protect everyone.
Even so, the restaurant will temporarily close. In its post, Louisville StrEatery urged the community to show support.
Neighbors like Michael Corrigan believe that support will come.
“I think this community really values local restaurants and they’ll be here to support,” he said.
According to arrest documents, 29-year-old Alexis Calvillo is accused of driving into the restaurant while intoxicated.
Police say that after hitting the building, Calvillo got out of the car and walked away. Officers approached him and ordered him to stop, but he ignored their commands.
The citation states officers then tried to detain Calvillo, who began resisting and said, “I’m going to kill you,” before they eventually took him into custody.
LMPD reports Calvillo had “a strong odor of alcohol” on him, and officers found a brown beer bottle on the passenger-side floorboard of his vehicle.
Calvillo faces charges of wanton endangerment, leaving the scene of an accident, criminal mischief, resisting arrest, terroristic threatening, DUI, obscuring the identity of a machine, failure to maintain insurance and failure to have registration plates.
His arraignment is set for Monday, March 2.
Kiwami Ramen has not announced a reopening date.
