The victim, Kamonti McFarlane, was shot near Shasta and Custer.
The suspect was arrested after a pursuit and crash in Indiana.
GLENDALE, Wis. – A Milwaukee man is now charged with first-degree intentional homicide in connection with the killing of Kamonti McFarlane last September.
In court:
Demonta Hambright, 42, was arrested following a high-speed chase and crash in Clark County, Indiana. At this time, it is unclear when he will make his initial appearance in Milwaukee County court.
The backstory:
Glendale police responded to reports of shots fired near Shasta and Custer late on the night of Sept. 29, 2025. When officers arrived, they found McFarlane critically injured in the front yard of a home. She later died at a hospital.
According to a criminal complaint, a witness told police he heard arguing and screaming before looking out his window and seeing a man standing over a woman on the ground. The man then fired one shot at the woman.
Investigators reviewed surveillance video showing McFarlane getting out of her car as a suspect chased her into the yard. Court documents say the suspect pulled McFarlane to the ground and slapped her before appearing to execute her with a single gunshot.
What they’re saying:
The complaint states that one of McFarlane’s family members was “100%” certain and had “no doubt” that the suspect seen in the video was Hambright, McFarlane’s ex-boyfriend.
Court filings also say other family members and a friend told police that Hambright had previously threatened to kill McFarlane. The friend said McFarlane called the day before the shooting and reported that Hambright choked her and said he was going to kill her. One family member told investigators that Hambright choked McFarlane into unconsciousness just days before her death.
Hambright’s arrest:
The Clark County Sheriff’s Office in Indiana alerted Glendale police that Hambright’s vehicle had been located on Sept. 30, 2025, the day after the shooting.
Deputies attempted to stop the vehicle, but Hambright led them on a high-speed chase that ended in a crash. He then tried to run from the wreck but was taken into custody.
According to the complaint, detectives later interviewed one of Hambright’s family members on Nov. 25, 2025. That family member told investigators that Hambright confessed to killing McFarlane.
