WEST LIBERTY, Ky. (FOX 56) — Governor Andy Beshear is calling for accountability as investigators examine the storm-related death of an inmate at the Eastern Kentucky Correctional Complex.
The Justice and Public Safety Cabinet said Marvin Knuckles was pronounced dead at about 7:30 a.m. on Jan. 27 at Appalachian Regional Hospital in West Liberty. Officials reported that Knuckles had been removing snow and ice debris at the prison earlier that morning.
During a press conference on Thursday, Beshear said the investigation, which is being led by Kentucky State Police, must be thorough and transparent.
“What I want to make sure is that the full truth comes out and that we’re fully transparent,” Beshear said. “Decisions made, good or bad, deserve to be seen by that family and by everyone else.”
Authorities said Knuckles was serving a 12-year sentence for drug-related offenses at the time of his death. The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident remains ongoing.
