LEXINGTON, Ky. — Kentucky’s winter storm death toll rose to 12 Wednesday after officials confirmed that 32-year-old Jordyn Daws was found dead outside her home in Lexington.

The Fayette County Coroner’s Office said Daws was discovered just after 12:45 p.m. in the front yard of a home on the 3700 block of Wargrave Walk. Her cause of death was ruled hypothermia from environmental exposure. Daws lived nearby in the Polo Club community.

Neighbors described the discovery as shocking for the normally quiet neighborhood.

“This is like the first time that this is happening close to us, and it’s really shocking,” said Idris Bashorun, who lives nearby. “We saw lots of cops. We were wondering what’s going on. They kept going back and forth, looking on the ground. I didn’t know what they were looking for.”

The winter storm brought snow, ice, and bitterly cold temperatures across Kentucky, putting a strain on emergency and public works crews.

In an official update, Lexington Mayor Linda Gorton said city crews were working around the clock to address hazardous conditions.

“While Lexington continues to battle ice and an extended period of bitter cold temperatures, city road crews have made significant progress, and the work continues,” Gorton said.
