LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) — The Louisville Metro police officer wounded during the mass shooting at Old National Bank is retiring from the department.

Officer Nick Wilt will officially take medical retirement from LMPD on Jan. 30, 2026.

Wilt was injured on the morning of April 10, 2023, when he and his partner, Officer Cory “CJ” Galloway, responded to the mass shooting at the corner of Preston Street and Main Street.

Five bank employees were killed, and eight others, including Wilt, were injured. The suspect was a bank employee armed with an assault rifle.

Wilt, who was shot in the head, continues to show progress in his recovery.

LMPD Chief Paul Humphrey and Mayor Craig Greenberg are among those expected to honor him during his retirement celebration.
