LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) — Anchorage Middletown Fire and EMS and Jeffersontown Fire & EMS responded early Tuesday to a residential fire in East Louisville, where cold temperatures created additional challenges for crews.

The call came in just after 12:40 a.m. for a fire at a home in the 900 block of Gilliand Road. Units arrived about five minutes after dispatch and found an active fire at a one-and-a-half-story, single-family residence.

Smoke was visible coming from the upper floor, prompting firefighters to begin fire suppression efforts along with search and rescue operations.

Smoke alarms alerted the family inside the home, allowing everyone to escape safely.

Frigid temperatures made conditions more difficult, but crews were able to bring the fire under control. No injuries were reported.

A total of 25 firefighters and EMS personnel responded, and it took about 29 minutes to contain the fire. The cause remains under investigation.
