LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — A 50-year-old Louisville man was arrested Tuesday and charged with cutting and removing critical infrastructure wiring in Jefferson County.
According to a news release, detectives with Louisville Metro Alcoholic Beverage Control arrested Noah Duke after discovering wire on Jan. 18 that had been cut, stolen, and hidden in a concealed area along Old Harrods Trace for later pickup. The location sits off the Gene Snyder Freeway near Taylorsville Road.
An arrest citation stated that detectives linked a vehicle to the crime that was found nearby. After stopping the car, officers reported finding evidence inside, including tools used to cut wire.
The Critical Infrastructure Task Force investigated the theft, which has intensified enforcement against similar crimes. City officials have blamed these incidents for darkened streetlights and widespread internet outages.
Duke faces charges of criminal mischief, attempted theft by unlawful taking or disposition, trespass of key infrastructure assets, reckless driving, disregarding a traffic control device, disregarding a stop sign, failure of an owner to maintain required insurance or security, and having no registration plates.
Duke is scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday, Jan. 21. His bond was set at $2,500.
