NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WZTV) — Authorities arrested a man on Friday in Louisville, Kentucky, who is accused of raping a teenage girl in Nashville on New Year’s Eve.

Louisville Police located 31-year-old Mena Awad at a hotel Friday afternoon. They acted on information from Metro Nashville Police detectives indicating he had traveled to the area. His extradition back to Nashville is currently pending.

Detectives had been searching for Awad regarding the assault of a teenage girl on Dec. 31. On Jan. 12, police issued arrest warrants for Awad on charges of:

  • Aggravated rape

  • Aggravated assault

  • Aggravated burglary

Awad allegedly sexually assaulted the 16-year-old girl inside her Millwood Drive apartment. Investigators stated that Awad entered the unlocked residence around 7 a.m. and assaulted the girl in her bedroom. The teenager informed police that she did not know the man and reported that he carried both a gun and a knife during the incident.

Detectives identified Awad as the suspect after reviewing surveillance footage from the neighborhood. Police believe he is unhoused and note that he frequently visits the area surrounding Millwood Drive and Murfreesboro Pike.
